The Heroes Project
The Heroes Project is a long standing tradition among the fifth grade classes at Anderson Elementary in Wichita, KS. Students in the fifth grade are asked to research and report on a historical figure that they consider a hero. Traditionally students would present this information in a wax museum format where the whole school would come and visit the museum to learn more about historical heroes.
The four teachers who are participating in this project are: Mrs. Conway, Ms. Hersh, Mrs. McIntosh/Mrs. Ripley and Ms. Pearce. Students in these classrooms decided to share information about their hero using technology to help display the information. The students created a written, visual and oral presentation in a variety of ways. All students wrote an essay about their hero, making sure to share the defining moment in their heroes' life as well as interesting facts and character traits. Students were then given the choice to create some form of visual representation as well as an oral presentation.
